Chicagotalks has written about the Read/Write library, most recently about its move to a new location. Now everyone has a chance to see the digs and to showcase their literary work. This is a DIY library, where the readers and writers who care to get involved curate the collection.

The aim to collect a community archive that will track the creative, political and intellectual trends of Chicago by keeping track of  how people have worked together, who influenced whom, where ideas first developed, and how they spread from one publication to another through individuals.

The first Open Mic reading night is going to be a collection of prose, poetry, fiction, “whatever whets your whistle,” according to Nicky Yowell of the Read/Write Library. Get there on time, because the readings will be done on a first-come-first-served basis.

The rules: each reader gets a maximum of 7 minutes to do their thing and it will wrap up at 9:30 or when they run out of people/time. There will be snacks.

Read/Write Library Chicago Open Mic Reading February 23, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
