The leaves are changing and the temperature is dropping as the sweaters, cardigans, scarves and boots hit the shelves. Bannockburn, one of Chicago’s North Shore suburbs, is home to the clothing, accessories and jewelry boutique, Garbs.
Garbs, located at 2541 Waukegan Road, is now offering their fall lines with a divergent selection of new and familiar designers’ garments and accessories.
Walking into the store, the black coffee table located in the front of the store is decorated with plants accompanied by two black suede chairs and it instantly makes the atmosphere friendly as the organized clothes neatly hung up await to be tried on.
Some familiar names and brands at Garbs are J Brand, Vince, Theory, Charles David shoes, Red Engine, and Alexis Bittar. “You’ll see the stars wearing these brands,” says Cari Simon, the store’s owner. She says she likes to keep her store updated with the latest trends.
Shop assistant Kaitlyn, who has worked at Garbs for five year, mostly during the summers, says that most people lately have been coming in and buying sweaters, t-shirts and cardigans. “It depends on the weather, but people mainly buy the costume jewelry,” she says. She also says that while they have a lot of what’s hot right now, New York and the Midwest are totally different with style. “We are behind,” she laughs.
Simon’s store has a price range from about $40, usually jewelry or other accessories to $800 or $900, usually some jackets or pants.
This boutique has a lot of professional and sophisticated style clothing; there really isn’t any promiscuous type garments in the store. “I buy with an older eye,” says Simon of her choices of garments and designer names. As actress and sex symbol Mae West once said, “I like my clothes tight enough to show I’m a woman, but loose enough to show I’m a lady.” And Garbs presents this with their choices.
Black leggings, black and white, navy and purple sweaters, boxy cut sweaters, loose fitting shirts, tans and browns, full and long tops, fur vests, pleated pants, bright colored scarves, hats, stylish belts, eyewear, leather boots, pumps and gold, silver and costume jewelry are just a few of the many options that this boutique has to offer.
