“There are a lot of really eye-catching pieces in this exhibit,” Gary Feinman, a curator of the Aztec World exhibit at the Field museum, said. Eye-catching may be an understatement. Imagine seeing a life size statue of a man with his liver hanging outside his body, numerous stones where bodies were sacrificed to the gods, and tools used for both ancient warfare and agriculture. Imagine no more. The Aztec world exhibit opened at the Field Museum October 26 and the museum is pulling out all the stops to promote its significance. On Saturday, the museum devoted an entire day to the ancient Aztec civilization. It’s a contemporary twist on an ancient culture. To get the whole day in, visitors had to arrive early. Feinman said he thinks it should take about an hour to get through the exhibit. There are about 300 pieces in the Aztec World that have never been on display at the museum. Elizabeth Brumfiel, another curator of the Aztec world exhibit and a Professor of Anthropology at Northwestern University, said that of the 300 pieces in the exhibit, 200 of them are from Mexico. Keys to embedding flickr slideshows: Have this code snippet handy. You need it to embed a slideshow in a chicagotalks.org page: <object type="text/html" data="http://flickr.com/YOUR_SEARCH_GOES_HERE" width="725" height="500"> </object> You need to go to flickr.com and search for images that compliment your story. When you find the images for your slideshow, choose "SLIDESHOW" and then copy the URL of the slideshow. Use "Add Something" on chicagotalks.org to get a new page, choose "Tables and Tools" and "HTML" to get the HTML edit window. Write a brief introduction. Flickr.com is a photo hosting site. You can easily create a photo slideshow using images from flickr.com, and post it as part of your story, or by itself, with a brief introduction. The steps are listed below, or you can watch the "how-to" video explanation . Please make sure you select images licensed by "creativecommons" to avoid copyright issues. 1. Post your photos to flickr.com or do a search of flickr.com to locate your set of images. 2. Use the "Add Something" tab to open a new page 3. Enter a title for the page 4. Click "Tables and Tools" > "HTML" to bring up the coding window 5. Chicago film student struggles to pay tuition, work and going to school full time. Freezing, Tessana Nemenski enters her apartment after a long night of shooting footage for her production class in the frigid February Chicago wind. She tries to warm up and unwind with a steaming hot shower, but it doesn’t work. Nemenski in her apartment by Joe Blow Nearly 2 a.m., a worn and cold Nemenski has to sleep on the floor again tonight. But sleep is not coming. Nemenski has very little furniture: an old wooden rocking chair and a folding card table. Her only other possessions are a closet overflowing with clothes, a couple boxes of comic books and artist-signed sketches of her favorite comic book hero, Daredevil. Early the next morning Nemenski has to wake up for a full day of work and classes, just like every day of the week. “Some days I feel like pulling out my hair,” Nemenski said.
