Teacher: ‘You don’t have to be flexible to do yoga’

Hatha yoga focuses on a sequence of physical exercises that are driven to align your skin, muscles and bones. The different poses allow the flow of energy by opening up the different channels within your body.

The Hatha and meditation yoga class offered at Tula Yoga studio in Lincoln Park helps its participants to achieve the ultimate bliss of relaxation and is open to yogis at any level.

“You don’t have to be flexible to do yoga; flexibility is a by-product of yoga. [The class] will help make you flexible,” said Monica Brown, a Tula yoga instructor.

A key factor to Hatha yoga is the attention to our breath, which helps us to still the fluctuations of the mind and to be more present in the unfolding of each moment, according to the Yoga Journal.
