Calling all zinesters, readers, and writers to Chicago Zinefest 2013

Chicago Zinefest starts on Friday. According to the Zinesters at Chicago Zinefest,  “A zine (an abbreviation of the word fanzine, or magazine; pronounced “zeen”) is most commonly a small circulation publication of original or appropriated texts and images.” Chicago has been home to Zinefest for several years. The official site describes  “The Chicago Zine Fest is an independent event creating an outlet for small press and independent publishers to showcase their work. Our goal is to make DIY zine-making accessible, highlight the talents of self-published artists, and give independent artists a chance to interact, and swap skills through tabling, community events, and workshops.”

So if you like to read, are interested in writing, or just like being around a bunch of enthusiastic and creative people, come by for a panel or to browse the exhibits. There are readings, and workshops. Most of the sessions are at Columbia College Chicago’s 1104 S. Wabash building (take Red Line to Roosevelt, or 29 or 62 bus to 11th St.) but The Boring Store and Quimby’s are hosting events as well.
