Close Ups: Lincoln Square’s RavensGoods

Typing RavensGoods into Yelp, one will find reviews that say, “This is my go-to shop for gifts for friends,” “Adorable store, great prices!” and “lovely addition to the neighborhood.”

A charming vintage boutique just a block away from the Brown Line stop at Damen, RavensGoods is a local novelty store that sells items ranging from organic products, eco-friendly items and even local artwork.

The shop itself is small but shows incredible attention to detail in its decor. The window display has a vintage theme along with the rest of the shop. Owner, Lulu Glaser would never have imagined that what started out as her personal art studio would become what it is today. She has never lost her artistic roots and has opened up the shop to a number of vendors to display their own works of art.

Glaser values individuality and says that her customers value this as well.

“I do think there is something to be said of a handmade item,” says Glacer, “Consumers appreciate it…a lot of the pieces are one-of-a-kind items”

About 90 percent of the store’s products are handmade items. While the majority of products are from local Chicago artists, you can also find a variety of products imported from Europe and California.

Glaser not only likes to have vintage merchandise in her shop, but also likes eco-friendly and organic items. One of the most surprising parts of RavensGoods is how affordable the merchandise is.

“That’s a fun game to play for me [laughs], but I try to look for items that are under $50 to keep it affordable,” says Glaser.

A Western Illinois University graduate and fashion merchandise major, Glaser credits her success to her background in retail and support from her husband and friends.
