Englewood Organizations Out to Register 5,000 New Voters

This story comes from Sonya Harper and Everyblock:

Organizations and individuals from the Englewood area, including, Growing Home, Inc., RAGE (Resident Association of Greater Englewood), Teamwork Englewood, Imagine Englewood If, and the 15th Ward Democratic Committeeman Raymond Lopez are leading a political awareness campaign that seeks to register 5,000 new voters in an effort to encourage President Barack Obama to make an appearance in the south side neighborhood.

Organizers of the Englewood Votes! campaign are working to register new voters for the upcoming election, stress the importance of voting in every single election, as well getting more community involvement from neighbors and former residents who can volunteer their time, skills and resources to the neighborhood.

Englewood Votes! organizers will be at the Bud Billiken Parade this Saturday. They will be registering voters and organizing residents at the Englewood Unity Day Back to School Clean Up and Picnic on August 18th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. near Imagine Englewood if…!,  at 730 W. 69th St.

The campaign is sponsoring a voter registrar training in conjunction with 6th Ward Alderman/Democratic Committeeman Roderick T. Sawyer to be held Aug. 21, 2012 at Growing Home Wood Street Farm, 5814 S. Wood St. at 6 p.m. This training and others to follow will allow the campaign to obtain numerous registrars who will run registration drives at various locations simultaneously until the deadline.

Englewood Votes! kicked off its campaign this past Tuesday at National Night Out at Lindblom Park in conjunction with the 7th Police District.

The campaign always welcomes supporters, donors and neighbors to join this particular effort to educate and organize residents in Englewood to create a safer and more livable environment.
